I am sending you the paper back with major revisions. After consulting your reviewers, I think that it is fair to conclude that the spatial autocorrelation in your method needs to be addressed.

From the initial submission to the revisions, you have drastically changed your viewpoint on this aspect, which has made me and the reviewers uncomfortable with your method. I believe, based on the reviews, that it is a crucial aspect of a weather generator with an application to land surface modeling.

I am not rejecting the paper, because I believe that you have addressed most of the comments well. Therefore, after the issues with the spatial autocorrelation have been addressed, I am convinced that this manuscript will meet the requirements for GMD.
