HYDROLOGY AND EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCES REVIEW OF „UNREPRESENTED MODEL ERROS – EFFECT ON ESTIMATED SOIL HYDRAULIC MATERIAL PROPERTIES“ BY JAUMANN AND ROTH.
I acted as reviewer 1 in the first round of reviews. I was supportive of the general direction proposed by this manuscript, but I had a range of suggestions to further improve the manuscript. I have now evaluated the reponse of the authors to the reviewer comments and the revised version of the manuscript. I found that my comments have been well addressed. In particular, I appreciated the revised introduction and the use of an appendix to provide some of the methodological details. Overall, I can now recommend this manuscript for publication if the minor editorial suggestions below have been considered.
SPECIFIC COMMENTS
Page 1, line 4. Should read “… material properties…”.
Page 1, Line 12. This looks a bit awkward without a unit. I propose 0.004 m3m-3 or mentioning volumetric water content.
Page 2, Line 21-22. Awkward sentence. Perhaps: Hence, the crux is to find a model with sufficient complexity to describe the data with the required accuracy.
Page 3, Line 1. Should read: “…on the inversely estimated material properties.”.
Page 3, Line 15. Should read: “In addition to …”.
Page 4, Line 2. Should read: “… we follow Bauser et al. …”. Also avoid paragraphs of one sentence. The next sentence can be part of this paragraph.
Page 6, Line 15. Perhaps: “… the experiment exhibits complicated…”.
Page 8, Line 4. Perhaps: The structural error analysis aims for an assessment of selected representation errors. In particular, representation error are parameterized and included in the parameter estimation process.
Page 11, Line 7. I suggest: “ In addition to visual analysis…, statistical measures help to quantify …”.
Page 17, Line 7: I suggest: “…obtained with Latin Hypercube sampling.”. |
